Mexico report Mallorca to FIFA as fears grow regarding the release of winger Giovani dos Santos.

The Mexican FA have reported Mallorca to FIFA due to fears that winger Giovani dos Santos will not be released in time for their World Cup qualifier against Jamaica on June 4.

Today is the deadline for clubs to release players, but the La Liga club play their final game of the season against Real Valladolid on Sunday, needing a win and other results to go their way to beat the drop.

Mexico Football Federation's director Hector Gonzalez warned Mallorca that they could be deducted points for a breach of regulations, rendering their refusal to release Dos Santos futile.

"When playing a qualifying match, you have the right to four days if the player is on the same continent, or five days if coming from another continent," Mexico Football Federation's director Hector Gonzalez said in a statement. "In this case it is five days that we are entitled to from Friday.

"It seems that FIFA will intervene by phone and direct another letter telling them that it will be a breach of rules to not release the player.

"The fight for Gio is respectable and understandable, but in the end they have to understand that there is a regulation and it must be respected. The regulations are clear, if Gio plays and they win or draw, points will be deducted and there will be other strong economic sanctions, but the worst thing is that points will be deducted."

Andres Guardado and Javier Aquino have been released by Valencia and Villarreal respectively.
