Great Britain's men's football team coach Stuart Pearce insists that David Beckham is not guaranteed a place in his Olympic squad.

Great Britain's men's football team coach Stuart Pearce has revealed that David Beckham is not guaranteed a place in his squad for the Olympic Games later this year.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid winger has been widely tipped to claim one of the three berths available to players over the age of 23.

However, Pearce has insisted that he will be picking his 18-man squad on "form and merit" only.

"I'll know a bit more about David Beckham's chances when I go to the States and see him," said Pearce.

"He's been a great ambassador but that's no guarantee he'll get in the squad. I'm picking on form and merit alone."

Pearce was speaking at this morning's draw for the group stages of the Games.
