Rickie Lambert puts friendship with new teammate Luis Suarez on hold until after England's crunch tie against Uruguay.

Rickie Lambert has insisted that he will wait until after England's match against Uruguay to introduce himself to new teammate Luis Suarez.

The 32-year-old striker will be joining up with Suarez for pre-season following his £4m move from Southampton to Anfield, but on Thursday they will be opponents.

Lambert told reporters: "He's on fire. He's had an op but I think he'll be back and if he does play he's obviously the number one player we'll have to watch out for. But he's not the only good player in their team.

"I don't think I'll be trying to make friends before the game. But I did vote for him as Footballer of the Year."

Group D's next fixture will see England face Uruguay in Sao Paulo on Thursday.
