Paul Scholes: 'It would be a mistake for Luis Suarez to join Barcelona'

Paul Scholes believes that Luis Suarez will be making a "mistake" if he joins Barcelona over Real Madrid this summer.

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes that Luis Suarez will be making a "mistake" if he joins Barcelona this summer from Liverpool.

The Uruguayan international is widely expected to move to Camp Nou from Anfield after both clubs opened talks regarding a possible £80m deal.

Despite reports that Suarez is eager to make the move to Barca, Scholes feels that he will be "wasting" his time if the club's star player Lionel Messi does not accept him.

"If Luis Suarez does sign for Barcelona from Liverpool, will Lionel Messi 'accept' him?" Scholes questioned in his Paddy Power blog.

"Suarez is a centre-forward and he won't want to play out wide. I can't see Suarez and Messi linking well together. It seems to me, if Messi likes you, you'll play.

"If he doesn't, you're wasting your time. And, to be honest, I think Suarez is making a bit of a mistake going to Barcelona – he'd be better suited to Real Madrid."

Suarez is currently serving a four-month ban from all football activity after he bit the shoulder of Giorgio Chiellini during the World Cup in Brazil.
