Mark Lawrenson has suggested that Liverpool's signing of James Milner will attract more top players to Anfield.
The England international moved to the Merseyside club on a free transfer after five seasons at Manchester City.
Reds legend Lawrenson believes that recruiting Milner is a positive statement, if Liverpool look to add more players to their ranks.
He told the Liverpool Echo: "They'll see him choose Liverpool above staying at City, and take that as a sign there must be positive vibes coming from Anfield. It's still a place to be.
"Milner's arrival suggest Fenway Sports Group are relaxing their transfer policy slightly, although no doubt the blow has been softened by not having to pay a fee for a 29-year-old.
"But look at Chelsea. They have experience players right through the heart of their team, and if someone is a regular performer like Milner is, it doesn't matter how old they are."
Liverpool finished sixth in the 2014-15 Premier League table, eight points behind fourth-placed Manchester United.
