Javier Manquillo's Liverpool loan spell comes to early end

Atletico Madrid confirm that Javier Manquillo's loan spell at Liverpool has been cut short due to a lack of playing time at Anfield.

Atletico Madrid have confirmed that Javier Manquillo will not complete his loan spell with Liverpool next season.

The full-back joined the Anfield outfit on a temporary two-year deal last summer in an agreement that included the option to make the switch permanent.

However, the two clubs have decided to end the loan spell after just one season in England due to the 21-year-old's lack of playing time on Merseyside.

"Javier Manquillo will not fulfil his second season on loan with Liverpool," read a statement from Atletico.

"The player and Atletico de Madrid decided that the winger from Madrid would go to Anfield's club for two seasons to enjoy the necessary minutes to continue growing football-wise.

"However, in this first season with the 'Reds', the defender has not had all the minutes he and our club consider necessary for that purpose of accumulating experiences in his sports growth, so by mutual consent, it has been decided that he will not follow under the discipline of the English team."

It is understood that Manquillo will now be loaned out to another club rather than returning to the Spanish capital.
