Brendan Rodgers: 'We must look after Daniel Sturridge'

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers reveals that striker Daniel Sturridge is "fresh and fit" for this weekend's Merseyside derby with Everton.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has admitted that the club are "managing" the fitness of Daniel Sturridge, but revealed that the striker will feature against Everton on Sunday afternoon.

Sturridge sat out of the 1-1 draw with Sion in the Europa League on Thursday night after recently returning from a long-term layoff, but Rodgers has said that the England international is ready for the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

The 42-year-old told reporters: "First and foremost, we are managing Daniel's fitness. He has been out for a really long time and he has come back early through the work and the effort that he has put in, and with so many games, we have to look after him.

"He needs to get to full match fitness, and there will come a time when he is available to play in all of the games, or certainly be available for them.

"However, he's fresh and fit, and he is looking forward to the weekend."

Last weekend, Sturridge scored his first goal since March 22 when he netted a double in the 3-2 victory over Aston Villa.
