Danny Murphy: 'Liverpool could sell Raheem Sterling'

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy claims that the Anfield side could offload Raheem Sterling this summer.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has admitted that he can see the Reds selling Raheem Sterling if a big-money bid comes in for the England international this summer.

Sterling recently admitted that he was flattered to be linked with a move to Arsenal, and the 20-year-old was caught on film inhaling legal high nitrous oxide, in a video that was released earlier this week.

Murphy, who played at Anfield from 1997 to 2004, thinks that Sterling needs to show the club more respect, and the former midfielder said that he could see manager Brendan Rodgers offloading the versatile youngster in the next transfer window.

He told BBC Sport: "He's developed quickly and he's a player you'd want to build your team around but I think he has to remember it was Liverpool who has given him the opportunity and a platform to get to the level he's at.

"He has to show the club a bit of respect and it wouldn't surprise me if they let him go if a big offer came in this summer."

Liverpool meet Aston Villa in the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday.
