Danny Murphy backs Liverpool to appoint Carlo Ancelotti over Jurgen Klopp

Danny Murphy believes that Carlo Ancelotti would be a better appointment than Jurgen Klopp for the Liverpool job.

Former Liverpool midfielder Danny Murphy has urged the club to appoint Carlo Ancelotti over Jurgen Klopp.

The Merseyside outfit are looking for a new boss after sacking Brendan Rodgers three hours after the Reds' 1-1 draw against Everton on Sunday.

Ancelotti and Klopp have emerged as the leading candidates, but Murphy believes that the Italian's success at Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid should put him at the top of Liverpool's wishlist.

"Reading the CVs and what they have done and where they have done it and how many times they have done it, it is a no-brainer really," Murphy said on talkSPORT. "You can't guarantee success with either guy because you are competing with Manchester City, United, Chelsea and Arsenal.

"Ancelotti has done it as a player, he has done it as a coach, and he has done it in different countries. And, ultimately, he has done it here already with Chelsea. He has won the league here, he has won the [FA] Cup here, so he knows this league. That in itself gives him a headstart on Klopp."

Reports have claimed that Liverpool will hold talks with Klopp this week, and while Ancelotti is a target, it is believed that the Italian has ruled out a switch to Anfield.
