James Milner hails "exciting times" at Liverpool

New Liverpool midfielder James Milner talks up the "exciting times" at the club after their 2-1 win over Brisbane Roar on Friday.

Liverpool midfielder James Milner has talked up the "exciting times" at the club after he netted his first goal for his new side against Brisbane Roar on Friday.

Milner, who was signed from Manchester City on a free transfer last month, scored the winning goal as the Reds made it back-to-back pre-season wins with a 2-1 victory, and the England man is delighted to have joined Brendan Rodgers's men.

He told the club's official website: "It's really exciting times at the club. I think you look at the squad as it is here and there are plenty of young players coming through, the manager and the new staff he has brought in, everything is there for us.

"And there are still a number of players to come in as well so it is exciting times. Pre-season is a great time for us to get to know each other, the new players, and build that foundation for us for the season to kick on and go from there.

"The longer we're together the more we'll improve and the better we'll get."

Liverpool begin the new Premier League campaign with a trip to Stoke City next month.
