Everton boss Roberto Martinez out to spoil Steven Gerrard's final derby

Everton boss Roberto Martinez is out to spoil Steven Gerrard's final Merseyside derby.

Everton boss Roberto Martinez has urged his players to ruin Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard's final Merseyside derby ahead of Saturday's meeting between the two sides.

The Spaniard acknowledged that the US-bound midfielder will be under the spotlight during the match, but insists that winning the game is his only concern.

"There is going to be a lot of talk about that aspect of the game, but the only thing that matters to us is to try to use this game as a real springboard for our season," The Mirror quotes Martinez as saying.

"We picked up a very important win last weekend [at Crystal Palace] and it's all about what we do internally.

"Whatever happens to the other side, or whether they have a good or a bad day, is not what we are thinking about. Our intention is to make it our game. We want it to be our Merseyside derby."

Gerrard is expected to face Everton for the 33rd time when the local rivals clash at Goodison Park.
