Liverpool 'to open talks with Jurgen Klopp this week'

Liverpool will reportedly open talks with Jurgen Klopp about possibly taking over as manager following Brendan Rodgers's dismissal on Sunday.

Liverpool are reportedly planning to hold talks with former Borussia Dortmund boss Jurgen Klopp this week as they look to move quickly in appointing a new manager.

The German coach has emerged as the favourite for the position after Brendan Rodgers was sacked three hours after Liverpool's 1-1 draw against Everton in Sunday's Merseyside derby.

Reports have claimed that Liverpool's American owners FSG are keen to have a new manager in place in time for the Reds' next Premier League game against Tottenham Hotspur on October 17.

According to BBC Sport, the Merseyside outfit will begin talks this week with Klopp, who is open to the idea of taking over at Anfield.

Ex-Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti is also believed to be high on Liverpool's wanted list, but reports have claimed that the Italian will not return to management until next summer.

Rodgers, who was sacked eight games into the season, failed to win a single trophy during his three-year spell, but did take the club to within one point of the league title in his second year.
