Steven Gerrard: 'Aston Villa deserved their point'

Liverpool's Steven Gerrard admits that his side were below their best against Aston Villa on Saturday.

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard has admitted that Aston Villa were worthy of their point in the 2-2 draw at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.

Gerrard said that Villa's ability on the break surprised Liverpool in the first half and was pleased that his side managed to battle back and take something from the game.

"They deserved a point," BBC Sport quotes Gerrard as saying. "We were nowhere near good enough in the first half. We showed good character to get back into it. Looking back it was probably a fair result.

"We expected them to be good on the counter-attack and they were even better than we thought. It is no time to panic and we will carry on fighting for fourth. They are all big tests now."

This was only the second home game in the Premier League that Liverpool have dropped point in this season.
