Everton defender Sylvain Distin teases Liverpool fans on Twitter by saying that they are begging for a mistake from him.

Everton defender Sylvain Distin has teased Liverpool fans on Twitter ahead of this Sunday's Merseyside derby, claiming that they are begging for a mistake from him.

The Frenchman was at fault when the arch-rivals met in last season's FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, under-hitting a backpass that allowed Luis Suarez to score.

The Frenchman has used this to goad Reds fans on Twitter. He wrote: "My red followers been very quiet this season. I wonder why? Now they beg me for a mistake to make them feel better. I am feeling sad for them."

Sixth-placed Everton are a place and five points ahead of Liverpool in the table with three games of the campaign left.

The Toffees will be guaranteed to finish ahead of their neighbours for a second successive season if they win at Anfield in the Premier League for the first time in 14 years.

Victor Anichebe is congratulated by teammates after scoring his team's second against QPR on April 13, 2013
