Tony Cascarino: 'Brendan Rodgers was naive'

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino claims that Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers was tactically naive as his side lost 2-0 to the Blues at Anfield.

Former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has claimed that Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was tactically naive in his side's defeat to the Blues on Sunday.

Jose Mourinho's team have been criticised for their defensive performance as they recorded a 2-0 victory at Anfield.

However, Cascarino believes that Liverpool demonstrated a lack of wisdom in their team selection.

"Jose Mourinho proved again that he is a tactician at his very best," he told Sky Sports News.

"Liverpool have blown everybody away in recent weeks but as the minutes ticked on they found it harder and harder to get through. There was a lot of naivety about Liverpool yesterday. If they hadn't tried to be so ambitious they would have got a point which would have given them a great chance of winning the league.

"They were also very naïve in their starting lineup because selecting Philippe Coutinho and Raheem Sterling against Chelsea is a big ask. You know what Chelsea are going to do and Mourinho is the very best at it."

Chelsea moved to within two points of Liverpool at the top of the Premier League with the victory.
