Jamie Carragher backs Liverpool to "edge" Everton in Merseyside derby

Jamie Carragher believes that his former club Liverpool will claim the bragging rights over Everton in Saturday's Merseyside derby.

Jamie Carragher believes that his former club Liverpool will "edge" to victory against local rivals Everton in Saturday's Merseyside derby.

In this fixture at Anfield in the first half of the season, Phil Jagielka scored a stoppage-time goal to deny the Reds all three points.

However, Liverpool arguably head into this weekend's contest in better form as they are unbeaten in their last seven Premier League fixtures, while Everton have won just twice in as many top-flight matches.

"It's not far off a 50-50 game," Carragher told the Liverpool Echo. "I saw Everton play Manchester City at home a few weeks ago and even though they were in the middle of a bad run they played really well and could have got more out of it.

"It will be close on Saturday but I just fancy Liverpool to edge it with the form they are in and the attacking options they have. Liverpool to win 2-1."

Reds captain Steven Gerrard is likely to play in his last ever Merseyside derby this weekend as he is due to join MLS side Los Angeles Galaxy in the summer.
