Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen will reportedly be sidelined for three months if he undergoes an operation on his shoulder.

Liverpool midfielder Joe Allen will reportedly be out of action for three months if he undergoes surgery on his shoulder.

Reds manager Brendan Rodger confirmed prior to Liverpool's 3-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday that the 22-year-old would require an operation.

The former Swansea City midfielder has insisted that he is happy to play through the pain barrier, but Rodgers is unwilling to let Allen see out the rest of the season with the problem he's been suffering with since last October, according to the Liverpool Echo.

Liverpool are currently sixth in the Premier League table with nine games left to play.
