Liverpool keeper Simon Mignolet: 'Losing League Cup final is difficult to take'

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet says that losing to Manchester City in the League Cup final is "hard to take".

Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet has admitted that losing the League Cup final to Manchester City is "hard to take".

The Merseyside outfit were beaten 3-1 on penalties at Wembley on Sunday.

Mignolet made a blunder by allowing Fernandinho's strike to get past him in the 49th minute, but Philippe Coutinho pushed the game into extra time with a strike seven minutes from time.

It did not go to plan for the Reds, though, as Lucas Leiva, Coutinho and Adam Lallana had their spot kicks saved by Wilfredo Caballero.

"Losing is difficult to take," Mignolet told the club's official website. "Every time you play a final there is only one thing that counts and that's winning it. We lost and that's a disappointing feeling.

"When you come out of a final and you've lost, you're too disappointed to talk about it. When it's a penalty shootout it's a 50-50. City have good players so it was always going to be hard.

"When you play a final, you want a win, and if you lose it in the 90 minutes, or after extra time and penalties, then it doesn't matter - it's hard to take."

Liverpool will take on City again on Wednesday when the two sides meet in the Premier League at Anfield.
