Adebayo Akinfenwa: 'We can beat Liverpool'

AFC Wimbledon striker Adebayo Akinfenwa believes that his League One side can upset Liverpool when they meet in the FA Cup third round.

Adebayo Akinfenwa believes that AFC Wimbledon are capable of causing an upset when they host Liverpool in the FA Cup third round on Monday.

While he admitted to a gulf in class between the two teams, the Dons forward thinks that his side are good enough to spring a surprise on Brendan Rodgers's out-of-sorts side.

He told The Telegraph: "We're going to cause Liverpool trouble. We have confidence and Liverpool at the moment haven't. We are not deluding ourselves: we still have to play the best we can play and Liverpool have to be below par for us to beat them.

"This is the best time to play Liverpool. They have weaknesses: they are not defending crosses and we are good at putting balls in the box and getting on to seconds.

"We are hoping we can write a story against Liverpool. This club has done it before."

Liverpool surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Leicester City on New Year's Day.
