Jurgen Klopp bans Liverpool players for talking about their Champions League triumph last May ahead of the 2019-20 campaign.

Jurgen Klopp has forbidden his Liverpool players from discussing their Champions League triumph as the team prepares for the 2019-20 campaign.

Liverpool claimed their sixth European crown in Madrid - and only their second trophy since 2006 - by beating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 through goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi.

However, despite finishing on a remarkable 97 points, they placed second behind Manchester City in the Premier League table.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, Klopp said: "After this trip nobody should talk to me about the Champions League trophy. We don't carry it with us. Now we start a new chapter.

"I would be happy if we start at the similar level to last year. That would not be bad. There is space for improvement. Consistency on a high level is most important."

Liverpool have not been heavily active in the transfer window, with their only new signing being defender Sepp van den Berg, who joined from Dutch side PEC Zwolle for £1.7m.

Klopp's side play two more pre-season fixtures against Napoli and Lyon before facing Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 4.
