Levante through on away goals in Copa del Rey

Levante book their place in the next round of the Copa del Rey after a goalless draw sees them progress past Albacete.

Levante have progressed through to the next stage of the Copa del Rey after a 0-0 draw against Albacete allowed them to progress on away goals.

Albacete, bottom of Spain's second division, performed superbly to earn a share of the spoils in the first leg but they soon found themselves on the back foot at Ciutat de Valencia as Levante pressed for an early goal.

After Rafael Martins and Jaime Gavilan had squandered chances inside the penalty area, Ruben Garcia struck the post from 10 yards.

Former Liverpool winger Nabil El Zhar was also denied by Alberto in the Albacete goal, but as the half wore on, the underdogs began to enjoy more time in the final third with Thierry Moutinho, who netted in the first leg, shooting over from outside of the penalty area.

Soon after the restart, the Portuguese midfielder had an opportunity closer to goal but he failed to find the target from no more than eight yards out.

As the game progressed towards the final quarter, both teams were being restricted to long-range strikes with El Zhar and Sergio Cidoncha both failing to find their intended mark.

Aware that they needed a goal, Albacete pushed men forward during the latter stages but after Cesar Diaz and Keke both wasted decent openings, Levante were able to hold on to ensure that they edge through at their opponents' expense.
