Clinical Leeds United put three past Huddersfield Town

Leeds United score three goals with four shots on target as Steve Evans's side win 3-0 against Huddersfield Town at the John Smith's Stadium.

Two goals in first-half stoppage time helped Leeds United pull off a 3-0 win away to Huddersfield Town in the early Championship kickoff this afternoon.

Huddersfield started well, as Harry Bunn's strike was well saved by Marco Silvestri before a Nahki Wells freen ick was lifted over the bar from a good position.

Scott Wooton was then a little lucky not to receive his marching orders as the Leeds defender brought down Emyr Huws but the referee decided not to award a second yellow card, giving the former Manchester United man his last warning.

Leeds United then took the lead in added time as Stuart Dallas played a one-two with Chris Wood before he sent a cross into the box to Mirko Antenucci, who slotted the ball home from close range.

It was two minutes later, as Wood finished off a Leeds counter-attack led by Antenucci, who went round goalkeeper Joe Murphy before his pull-back fell at the feet of the New Zealand international, who calmly scored into an open goal.

The Terriers came out of the blocks in the second half as Wells had a chance from a few yards out, but the striker fluffed his lines and missed the ball altogether with the goal at his mercy.

Bunn had another opportunity as the home side looked for a route back into the game, with the forward weaving around Leeds defenders before hitting a low drive that was well saved by Silvestri.

However, it was Leeds that would go even further ahead against the run of play through Alex Mowatt, who was given too much space and the young midfielder smashed the ball from 30 yards out into the top left corner, giving Murphy no chance.

James Vaughan came on midway through the half for the home team and had two good chances but was denied both times by Silvestri in the Leeds United goal.

Substitute Jordan Botaka tested Murphy late on with an ambitious strike from out wide but the Huddersfield goalkeeper was equal to the effort and tipped it onto the top of the bar.

Kyle Dempsey could have scored a consolation goal late on but he was stopped in his tracks by Silvestri one on one.

The win lifts Steve Evans's men to 14th in the Championship table, while Huddersfield remain in 19th with the rest of the league yet to play.
