Hull City have moved six points clear of the Championship dropzone thanks to a thrilling 4-3 win over Norwich City at the KCOM Stadium.

The Tigers fought back from 3-1 down to end the Canaries' seven-match unbeaten run in a game which saw both sides convert two penalties apiece.

James Maddison scored a first-half hat-trick for the visitors, but Abel Hernandez's spot-kick brace, plus Jackson Irvine's opener and Harry Wilson's composed finish, gave Hull all three points.

Higher up the table, Cardiff City did enough to survive a late Birmingham City rally to claim a 3-2 win over the Blues in South Wales.

Craig Gardner and Maxime Colin scored in the second half for the relegation strugglers, but the goals proved too little too late after Neil Warnock's side surged into a three-goal half-time lead.

Playoff-chasing Preston North End were thwarted in stoppage time as Aleksandar Mitrovic's late strike helped Fulham to a 2-1 win which propelled the Cottagers into third place in the table.

Middlesbrough, meanwhile, consolidated their position in the final playoff spot by winning 3-1 against Barnsley, who remain two points above the bottom three.

Bottom club Sunderland have suffered another blow in their fight against relegation as Queens Park Rangers ran out 1-0 winners at Loftus Road, while Burton Albion claimed a valuable point in a goalless home draw against Bristol City.

Millwall continued their impressive form as they claimed a 1-0 win over Brentford, while Reading played out an entertaining 2-2 draw with Leeds United.

Elsewhere, Sheffield United held Ipswich Town to a goalless draw while city rivals Sheffield Wednesday also picked up a point in a 1-1 draw against Bolton Wanderers.
