Neil Warnock reveals that Nigel Adkins was "interested" in moving to Leeds United in the summer before taking the Reading job.

Leeds United manager Neil Warnock has revealed that Nigel Adkins was "definitely interested" in replacing him at Elland Road.

The former Southampton boss was appointed the new manager at Reading yesterday, despite initially discussing the possibility of moving to the Championship club.

While Warnock is currently in charge of the Whites, the ex-Queens Park Rangers boss has decided to leave the club when his contract expires in June.

"I spoke to Nigel a few weeks ago and told him what a great club Leeds are, what a great opportunity it would be for him here," Warnock told the Yorkshire Evening Post.

"The club need an outstanding candidate and I think you'd put him in that category. But he's obviously weighed everything up and decided that Reading's the best move for him."

When asked if Adkins was keen on the Leeds job, Warnock replied: "Absolutely. He was definitely interested. But then you don't really need to sell Leeds United to anyone. The club sells itself."

Adkins was sacked by Southampton in January, despite guiding the side to Premier League qualification last season.
