Live Commentary: Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Leeds United - as it happened

Sheffield Wednesday host Leeds United in the Championship and are looking for an improvement in fortunes.

Good evening and welcome to Sports Mole's live text commentary of the Championship clash between Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United at Hillsborough.

The home side have struggled so far in the league, with just eight points from a possible 30 leaving them third from bottom. Last time out they were beaten 1-0 at home by Hull City.

Leeds, on the other hand, are faring better as they currently sit just outside the playoff places in seventh with 17 points. Their last result was also 1-0, but Leeds were on the correct end of a result against Barnsley.

Leeds visit Hillsborough for the first time in six years and have excellent form in the fixture; they have won four of the last five here.

9.47pmWell, that's all from me. I hope you enjoyed the action. Thanks for joining Sports Mole for the drama tonight.

9.46pmIt was a game that had goals, chances, full-blooded tackles and controversy. All this in spite of the drama after the equaliser. Sheffield Wednesday stop the rot, but it should have been more than a point. Warnock will certainly take the draw.

9.44pmThe headlines will unfortunately be about a group of idiots who stormed the pitch from the away end after Tonge's frankly superb equaliser. In fact, it will be one idiot in particular who slapped Kirkland as he stood near his line after the goal.

9.42pmIt has to be said, Leeds got out of jail here. They should not have got a point, but Wednesday were wasteful.

Full-time!Sheffield Wednesday 1-1 Leeds United

90+5 minMaybe one last chance...

90+4 minBothroyd tries to thread Pearce through, then gets a chance to shoot from the edge of the box, but it's blocked. I think time's up for Wednesday.

90+3 minDiouf swings in a cross, Llera heads away for a throw and eventually Diouf is given offside.

90+1 minFive minutes of stoppage time for either side to claim a winner.

90 minThe hosts are trying, but I don't think they'll get the luck tonight. Leeds, however, should they not lose, have got away with it.

89 minClose for Sheff Wed! It's that long throw again from Antonio. It hits a defender and Kenny flicks it but it was going over. The corner is cleared.

88 minChance for Wednesday! Barkley does brilliantly to flick in the air and almost feed Antonio through. Eventually Leeds clear their lines.

87 minAntonio beats Lees for pace, but the defender recovers well and it's a corner. He's rapid this guy.

86 minNot much action since the goal. Leeds perhaps pressing more, but looking likely to be a draw here.

83 minGary Madine comes on for O'Grady, who has worked hard tonight. Danny Mayor comes on for Corry, too.

80 minKirkland's been treated and we're back underway. That's marred a perfectly good game of football.

79 minAwful scenes here! Leeds fans rush the pitch after the goal and one of them smacks Kirkland in the face. Terrible. Thuggish.

78 minIt's harsh on the home side, but it's a wonder strike from Tonge, as you might expect. He flicks the ball in front of him and hammers past Kirkland.

77 minGOAL! SHEFF WED 1-1 LEEDS (Tonge)

76 minThe hosts manage to clear from Becchio and break through Antonio... who tries too much and gives it away.

75 minYellow card! There it is! Brown is in the book. Persistent fouling.

74 minChance for Sheff Wed! Corry takes a pot shot through bodies and the cross comes in. Gardner rises and Byram gets in a fantastic header from under his post to stop Antonio tapping in.

73 minBrown again gets away with not being booked. Somehow. It was a nasty scissors tackle from behind.

71 minLeeds break through Diouf and Tonge, but the home defence again clear. Llera again getting a good tackle in. Just 20 minutes plus stoppage time away from their first clean sheet this season.

69 minChance for Sheff Wed! The free-kick is lumped long and pulled down by O'Grady to Antonio. His shot is blocked wide for a corner, which comes in and Barkley heads wide.

69 minBarkley is brought down in midfield after a lovely touch to get between two Leeds players.

68 minLuke Varney comes on for Peltier. So Warnock is taking the opportunity to make an attacking change.

67 minPeltier is down injured. He'll have to be replaced here which is a blow for Leeds.

65 minA strike from Norris from the corner of the box is blocked by Llera. Kirkland comes to claim.

65 minDiouf goes down after being caught and he's angry now. He won the free-kick but he could be in the book soon.

64 minChance for Sheff Wed! Llera brings down a cross superbly for centre-back partner Gardner, but his shot is blocked over for a corner, which comes to nothing.

63 minAnother corner as Wednesday look to turn the screw. It has to be said Byram has not had a good game so far at right-back.

62 minAntonio again gets past Byram after O'Grady works some space. His cutback to Bothroyd is eventually cleared for a corner.

61 minLlera is dominating the Leeds attack this half. He's clearing everything.

60 minRoute one from Kenny causes some trouble in the Wednesday box. However that's only because Gardner is fouled.

58 minDiouf for the third time this half hurls himself to the floor. No free-kick, no booking. It's awful to see; no need for it whatsoever.

57 minLeeds manage to gather the ball after Bothroyd and Antonio try to work space down the left. Not many chances being created this half.

55 minAntonio is found well by Bothroyd, and he does Byram far too easily. His cross it out of play, however.

54 minClose for Leeds! It's another Tonge free-kick, this time it's over. Kirkland probably had it covered, but a good effort.

53 minThe card hasn't stopped him sliding in though... A good tackle on Norris that. Yellow card!. Goes to Gardner - Diouf went down dramatically again... not much in it.

52 minYellow card! Finally a booking. It's gone to Wednesday's Jones for a late lunge. Deserved.

51 minLeeds have started just the brighter this half. They're being crowded out by the Wednesday defence, though.

51 minLeeds have started just the brighter this half. They're being crowded out by the Wednesday defence, though.

49 minDiouf takes a dive... nothing given. Should be a yellow then, no?

47 minKirkland claims and early ball into the box. Can Norris have more of an impact in the middle than Austin did?

46 minLlera looks like a boxer with his head guard and he certainly played his part in the first half. It's a race between him and Brown to see red.

46 minDavid Norris is on for Austin for Leeds. We're back underway!

8.49pmTeams are coming back out. We're almost back underway. No way have we seen all the incidents in this Yorkshire derby.

8.44pmThe referee's view might have been blocked for the Becchio incident.. but I don't know; he has to see it! As for Llera, the incident on Becchio right at the end, well that's bordering on assault.

8.39pmIt looked as though Leeds had enough luck to ride out that half. After Kenny had parried on to his own bar and Becchio should have given away a penalty, the eventual goal was route one as you like. A huge throw from Antonio, met by Bothroyd. Jones must be delighted he got the goal Wednesday deserved.

8.36pmWell, well, well. It's been as you might expect from this Yorkshire derby. Finally a goal, but we've seen Becchio turn goalkeeper and Llera lucky to get away with a raised arm twice; firstly on Brown, then Becchio.

Half-time!SHEFF WED 1-0 LEEDS. As the whistle goes, Llera gets away with a raised arm on Becchio.

45+2 minKirkland claims a late free-kick, and that could be it for the half.

45+1 minIt's also no less than the hosts deserve. I thought this was looking like a Leeds 1-0, but the timing of that goal is perfect for Wednesday.

45 minIt was a great leap from Bothroyd, but that throw was even longer than a Rory Delap effort. It went to the far end of the six-yard box. Incredible.

44 minAn unbelievable throw from Antonio! Right to the six-yard box where Bothroyd heads home.

44 minGOAL! WEDNESDAY 1-0 LEEDS (Bothroyd)

43 minBothroyd and O'Grady are leading the line well tonight. Leeds, however, continue to hold strong at the back.

41 minDiouf and Semedo square up. It was perfectly fair from the Wednesday man; a great tackle. Diouf doesn't like it, but there was nothing wrong.

40 minChance for Wednesday O'Grady holds up well for Jones to shoot from distance, but Kenny takes this once comfortably. Brown again involved in some handbags.

39 min... and eventually win a throw right near the Leeds byline.

38 minLovely passing again, but once more Leeds clear. However Wednesday keep coming...

37 minBrown wins the ball really well from Bothroyd on the left flank. Brown is down; but it was he who went flying into O'Grady. Typical from Brown there. Not booked.. yet.

36 min... Then Leeds try, and win a throw almost at the corner flag.

35 minIt was a really good touch there from Llera, as Becchio had taken up a good possession. Wednesday try to break...

34 minChance for Leeds! Tonge gets in a cross and Llera just nicks it away from Becchio's head.

33 minLeeds seeing more of the ball in the last few minutes, but they can't find a way through as yet.

32 minLeeds have ridden their luck so far. Kenny almost put through his own net but was saved by the woodwork.. then the handball... Corner now for the visitors.

30 minLeeds pass it around nicely now, Until Lees gives it straight to Kirkland from his own half.

28 minGetting feisty now. Barkley slides in on White cleanly. Gets a round of applause for his effort.

27 minI've not seen a more blatant handball. Not just not given, I just haven't ever seen one quite so obvious. Wednesday are still annoyed.

26 minHe batted it away from the feet of Antonio. It should be a penalty and a red card. Shocking for the referee not to have seen that.

25 minClear handball!! Unbelievable. Becchio palms it away from the corner and it's not given!

24 minFantastic control by Antonio from a Bothroyd pass. Wednesday eventually work a corner.

23 min...Antonio looks for Jones bursting forward, but the chance breaks down.

22 minCorner to Leeds; Diouf's low cross blocked by Semedo. Wednesday break...

21 minAustin has a shot blocked, before an attempt on his right foot goes out for a throw.

20 minClose for Leeds! Tonge hits the free-kick and Kirkland has to palm it away. Good effort.

19 minDiouf is taken down by Gardner. it was a sloppy slide tackle and he didn't need to make it. Dangerous position...

18 minVery nice from Wednesday between Bothroyd and Barkley, but Antonio's touch goes out of play.

17 minLooked like a handball from Diouf there. Roundly being booed, as he is everywhere he goes.

16 minLeeds managing to take the edge off Wednesday's pressure. Jones will be worried his side could not take advantage there.

14 minThe hosts have 60% of the possession so far. They could have scored twice, but so far Leeds are holding out.

13 minWednesday keep pushing. This time O'Grady tries to get in a cross, but it's cleared for a throw. You feel they need a goal here.

12 minChance for Wednesday! What a chance for Antonio! Bothroyd swings the free-kick in and Antonio is free from five yards out. His header is way over!

11 minByram takes out Antonio and it's a free-kick in a good position for Wednesday. No card, good refereeing.

10 minCLOSE FOR WEDNESDAY! Jay Bothroyd shoots from 30 yards and Kenny spills it on to his own bar! Unbelievable.

9 minAntonio cuts in this time, but his final pass is poor. He's tricky and has got past his man a couple of times already tonight.

8 minSam Byram is starting on the right, and he has his work cut out so far. Warnock has mixed up his players a bit here early on.

7 minAntonio is the outlet so far for the hosts. He's given offside there, but it was close.

6 minChance for Wednesday! Good ball finds Antonio, who swings in a gross for O'Grady. He meets it but it's comfortable for Kenny.

5 minLeeds doing the early pressing, but it's quite direct stuff from both teams so far.

4 minNervous defending by Wednesday to start with but a poor shot from Austin bobbles wide.

3 minFirst tasty tackle comes in from Leeds's skipper Peltier. Clean though, he got the ball.

2 minNeither side can keep control early on; the tempo is high to start with.

1 minWe're off!

1 minWe're off!

7.45pmI predict cards as well. I predict at least one for Brown, certainly.

7.45pmThree former Sheffield United players lining up for Leeds tonight. Paddy Kenny, Michael Brown and Michael Tonge will be up for this I'd have thought.

7.43pmThe teams are coming out of the tunnel; handshakes, etc, etc. Almost time.

7.42pm... While Wednesday have yet to keep a league clean sheet since their promotion last year. So what are the odds of Leeds not scoring tonight then?!

7.41pmDespite the last two 1-0 results for these sides respectively, there should be goals. Leeds have scored in every league and cup encounter so far this season.

7.39pmNeil Warnock has said that the form book goes out of the window in derbies such as this one. I'm with him; I wouldn't want to predict this, especially after an international break.

7.38pmIt always used to be a fantastic game when these teams were in the top flight. I'm expecting more of the same tonight.

7.36pmDave Jones is remaining upbeat about his side's chances, despite their form. He's just told Sky Sports News: "We feel we?re not that far away. Recent games could have gone either way but unfortunately they didn?t go ours. I can?t fault the players; they?re working really hard."

7.33pmLeeds, conversely, are unbeaten in six in all competitions and have three wins from four in the league.

7.32pmThis Yorkshire derby is expected to be the highest attendance in the league so far this term. Can the home crowd spur their team on to halt their dismal run of six defeats in seven?

7.31pmWe're 15 minutes away from kick off here. This should be an interesting one. Form suggests a Leeds win, but this isn't an easy place to come; the atmosphere is good already.

7.28pmLuciano Becchio continues up front for the visitors; the Argentinian has nine goals in all competitions for Leeds, and netted their only goal from the spot against Barnsley.

7.25pmLeeds: Kenny; Peltier, Lees, Pearce, White; Austin, Brown, Tonge; Becchio, Diouf, Byram

7.23pmIt's a first start for Paul Corry in midfield. He's made just one previous appearance for the Owls, away to Southampton in the League Cup last month.

7.21pmWednesday: Kirkland; Buxton, Llera, Gardner, Jones; Semedo, Corry, Barkley, Antonio; Bothroyd, O'Grady

7.19pmWithout further ado, let's get to the teams.

7.19pmGood evening. It's Sheffield Wednesday against Leeds United tonight from Hillsborough, thanks for joining Sports Mole.
