Preview: Genoa vs. Juventus - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole provides team news, predicted lineups and a full preview of Sunday's Serie A encounter between Genoa and Juventus.

Juventus make the trip to Stadio Luigi Ferraris to face Genoa looking to extend their unbeaten record in this season's Serie A to 28 matches.

Genoa begin the weekend sitting in 13th position in the standings, and Cesare Prandelli's side have failed to register a win from their last three outings.

Genoa have put together an improved run of form since the end of January with 10 points being recorded from seven matches, but Prandelli will still have concerns about his side ahead of welcoming Juventus.

I Rossoblu have failed to score in their last three outings - with two of those games coming against lowly Chievo and Frosinone - while their unbeaten streak was ended at Parma last weekend.

Genoa still sit nine points clear of the relegation zone, but the club face fixtures with Juventus, Inter Milan and Napoli in the coming weeks.

That schedule leaves Genoa continuing to have to look over their shoulder to the chasing pack, and a positive result against one of the top four may have to be recorded in order to maintain breathing space between themselves and the bottom three.

However, Prandelli has every reason to be pleased with Genoa's home form this season, with just three defeats being suffered in 14 outings in front of their own supporters.

Just one of those setbacks - to AC Milan - has come since the second weekend of November, and Genoa may relish the opportunity to cause a surprise against their in-form opponents.

The goals have dried up since the drop in form of January arrival Antonio Sanabria, but the Paraguayan is no stranger to scoring against a big Italian side having found the back of the net versus AC Milan in the Europa League earlier this campaign.

Prandelli will be delighted that his side have not conceded more than one goal in any of their last seven matches, but that record may have to be extended in order to get at least a point on the board on Sunday.

Juventus

Questions were asked of Massimiliano Allegri and his squad when they suffered defeat at Atletico Madrid in the Champions League last month, but Juventus have responded in the best possible way.

An away victory at nearest rivals Napoli was recorded at the start of March, and Juventus produced one of the performances of the season to overturn a two-deficit against Atletico in Tuesday's second leg of their last-16 tie.

Juventus had every reason to feel aggrieved when having a seemingly legitimate goal ruled out in the early stages, but Cristiano Ronaldo spearheaded a relentless display in Turin.

The top-flight leaders required a late penalty from the Portuguese superstar to book their place in the last eight, but Juventus outfought and outclassed opponents who would have expected to hold on to their advantage.

Juventus have now been left with a showdown with Ajax in the quarter-finals, while their improved outings on the domestic front have left the club 11 matches away from an unbeaten Serie A campaign.

Some testing fixtures are still to come, but Allegri will stress to his players that they cannot afford to take teams such as Genoa lightly during the closing two months of the season.

Allegri will likely continue to rotate his players in the coming matches, and that should lead to further opportunities for young striker Moise Kean.

The 19-year-old netted twice in the 4-1 triumph over Bologna last weekend, and the Italian will be prepared to make another contribution on Sunday if called upon by Allegri.

Team News

Juventus forward Paulo Dybala celebrates scoring against Frosinone on February 15, 2019© Reuters

Paulo Dybala is likely to come back into the team after only being named on the bench against Atletico Madrid.

Mario Mandzukic could be the man to miss out, and Giorgio Chiellini could also be rested after helping Juve keep a clean sheet in midweek.

Alex Sandro should return at left-back, but Kean is expected to be kept among the replacements despite his double last weekend.

Goalkeeper Ionut Radu is likely to return for Genoa, having missed the defeat against Parma due to the flu.

Genoa possible starting lineup:
Radu; Biraschi, Zukanovic, Romero, Criscito; Radovanovic, Lerager, Bessa; Lazovic, Sanabria, Kouame

Juventus possible starting lineup:
Szczesny; Cancelo, Bonucci, Rugani, Sandro; Can, Pjanic, Matuidi; Dybala, Ronaldo, Bernardeschi

Head To Head

Juventus are currently on a five-match unbeaten streak against Genoa, but Sunday's hosts have had a fair amount of success in this fixture.

Victories were recorded at Stadio Luigi Ferraris in 2014 and 2016, while four draws have also been registered since October 2011.

We say: Genoa 1-3 Juventus

Genoa possess a strong record at Stadio Luigi Ferraris this season, but we cannot back against Juventus. The visitors showcased their full repertoire against Atletico, and Allegri's side should win comfortably if they come close to repeating that performance.
