Mick McCarthy happy to wait for signings

Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy says that some of the better players may not become available until later in the summer.

Ipswich Town manager Mick McCarthy has admitted that he is happy to wait until after the World Cup to delve into the loan market in order to secure deals for good young players.

McCarthy said that by rushing into business Ipswich might miss out on some of the better available players, so he does not expect much to happen until at least mid-July.

"The players that will be involved in the World Cup will need a break so Premier League clubs will take all their best youngsters with them on tour and keep them through pre-season," McCarthy told the club's official website.

"They will look at their young players and see if they are good enough to be involved next season, or whether they will benefit from going out on loan.

"There are definitely loan deals to be had with Premier League clubs and I don't want to miss out on some of the good, exciting talent that could be available."

Ipswich narrowly missed out on the Championship playoffs last season with a ninth-place finish.
