Nine-man Inter Milan slump to home defeat at hands of Torino

Torino come from behind to beat Inter Milan 2-1 at San Siro in a game that saw the hosts have two men sent off.

Inter Milan have missed the chance to move fourth in the Serie A table having lost 2-1 at home to Torino this evening.

The Nerazzurri took the lead at San Siro, but a miserable second half saw them have two men sent off and Torino come from behind to pick up the win.

The opening goal arrived after just 17 minutes when Marcelo Brozovic saw his shot hit the hand of a sliding Emiliano Moretti while the defender was attempting to block the effort.

The referee immediately pointed to the spot, and up stepped Mauro Icardi to plant a cool finish into the corner from 12 yards.

There was little else to shout about in the first half as the match was disrupted by a number of fouls and cards, including a yellow for Miranda in the 19th minute that would prove costly later in the game.

Torino began to apply more pressure in the second half, and the hosts needed Samir Handanovic on hand to keep out Andrea Belotti just seven minutes after the restart.

It was only a temporary reprieve for Roberto Mancini's side, though, as the visitors levelled things up three minutes later when Maxi Lopez flicked the ball into the path of Cristian Molinaro, who stormed into the box before stabbing a finish past the keeper.

Things got even worse for Inter shortly afterwards as they received their first red card of the evening when Miranda's needless challenge from behind earned him a second yellow.

Inter's 10 men refused to give up on the possibility of winning the game, however, and came close with a little over 20 minutes left when Icardi's header from close range was kept out by Daniele Padelli.

Their hopes were dealt a massive blow just four minutes later, though, as Yuto Nagatomo was penalised for tripping Belotti inside the penalty area, conceding the game's second spot kick and also being shown the game's second red card.

Belotti himself got up to take the penalty, and after a stuttering run-up he sent Handanovic the wrong way to give his side the lead.

It was the visitors who came closest to adding the game's fourth goal too when Molinaro broke forward on the counter-attack and had a go from the edge of the box, only to see his shot come back off the post in injury time.

The miss did not prove to be costly, however, as Torino held out for a victory that takes them eight points clear of the relegation zone, while Inter remain eight adrift of the Champions League places having seen their four-match winning streak at home come to an end.
