Inter Milan brush off Livorno

A Francesco Bardi own goal and a Yuto Nagatomo strike help Inter Milan beat Livorno 2-0 at the San Siro in Serie A.

Inter Milan have defeated Livorno 2-0 at the San Siro in Serie A in what was Massimo Moratti's final game as president of the Italian giants.

Both sides made a slow start to the match with chances few and far between, although the Nerazzurri were doing more of the pressing and were hogging possession.

Walter Mazzarri's side's effort and hard work finally paid off on the half-hour mark under fortuitous circumstances.

Jonathan drilled in a low cross from the right that Livorno goalkeeper Francesco Bardi came out to collect, but he failed to get a proper grasp of the ball and allowed it to trickle over the line for an own goal.

That increased the urgency among the Livorno players, who pushed forward in search of an equaliser, with Andrea Luci shooting wide from a good position on the edge of the Nerazzurri box.

Inter could have gone 2-0 up four minutes from time had Rodrigo Palacio's looping header from inside the visitors' box been on target.

The Milanese giants continued to create chances in the second period as Walter Samuel headed Esteban Cambiasso's delivery over the crossbar and Yuto Nagatomo's cross put the visiting defence under pressure.

Cambiasso himself had a good chance in the 73rd minute but his shot was well kept out by Bardi.

Livorno tried to push forward and earn a late equaliser, but it was Inter who scored the game's second and final goal in injury time.

Mateo Kovacic collected a pass from Javier Zanetti on the edge of the box, hoodwinked a number of defenders and released Nagatomo to slam home.
