Esteban Cambiasso hopeful over World Cup chance

Inter Milan midfielder admits that he is hoping to make Argentina's squad for the World Cup in Brazil this summer.

Inter Milan midfielder Esteban Cambiasso has revealed that he still has hopes of making Argentina's squad for this summer's World Cup in Brazil.

The 33-year-old last earned a cap for Argentina in 2011, but a knee injury suffered by Boca Juniors midfielder Fernando Gago has given Cambiasso a chance.

After helping his side to a 2-0 win over Parma in Serie A on Saturday, Cambiasso said that he was hoping to maintain his form ahead of the tournament.

"Do I have World Cup hopes now that Gago is injured? I'm hopeful, but certainly not because of his injury, but rather for my club performances," Cambiasso told Inter's official website.

"I hope Fernando makes it to the tournament since he's an important player."

Cambiasso has earned 52 caps for Argentina since making his debut in 2000.
