Gus Poyet backs Lee Cattermole after red card

Gus Poyet feels that Lee Cattermole did not deserve his red card against Hull City.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has come out in support of Lee Cattermole after the midfielder and Andrea Dossena were sent off in the 1-0 defeat to Hull City.

However, Poyet says that Cattermole was unfortunate to see red and claims that he is treated unfairly.

"I'm convinced he didn't deserve the red card," he told BBC Sport.

"I think sometimes people see Lee Cattermole make a challenge and it is not allowed because people put things in the minds of other people. We need to be fair to him. I'd like the pundits to comment."

Sunderland remain in the relegation zone of the Premier League.
