Steve Bruce: 'Allan McGregor mistake cost us precious victory'

Steve Bruce believes that Allan McGregor's strength of character will help him recover from the "howler" he made in Hull City's 1-1 draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Hull City manager Steve Bruce has told goalkeeper Allan McGregor that he must quickly bounce back from the costly error he made against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The Scotland international let a tame cross slip through his fingers to gift James Henry the simplest of tap-ins.

Hull had earlier taken the lead in the Championship clash through Nikica Jelavic's first-half penalty, but McGregor's mistake ensured that the points were shared in a 1-1 draw at Molineux.

"The one thing in football management you can't legislate for is human error," Bruce is quoted as saying by Sky Sports News. "He probably hasn't done that since he was 10.

"It's now how he deals with it, which is the key. I cannot disguise the fact it was one of those howlers which has cost us the match. He's certainly a strong character, he is going to need to be.

"When you're a keeper it's highlighted. He has to cope with it and deal with it and come back and show his teeth a bit. He'll never have a moment like that again."

McGregor's national team boss Gordon Strachan was watching Sunday afternoon's match from the stands.
