Steve Bruce: Hull City have "wonderful" chance of reaching Wembley

Steve Bruce admits that Hull's fifth-round victory over Brighton gives the Tigers a "wonderful chance" of reaching their first Wembley FA Cup semi-final in 84 years.

Steve Bruce has admitted that he has one eye on potentially taking Hull City to a Wembley FA Cup semi-final for the first time in 84 years.

The Tigers moved into the last eight of the competition courtesy of a 2-1 win over Brighton & Hove Albion in their fifth-round replay on Monday evening.

Bruce's former club Sunderland await Hull in the quarter-finals and with their league form guiding them towards Premier League safety, the 53-year-old wants to make it a season to remember for the club's fans.

"The last time was 1930, wasn't it? There's not many around who went to that one," Bruce told reporters. "We've given ourselves a wonderful chance. It's a nice position to be in and now we've got to see if we can make it a really memorable season.

"[Wembley] is a wonderful occasion and, when you sit back in your cardigan and slippers, you remember the FA Cup. I've been fortunate enough to win it and it would be nice to go back there again if we possibly could.

"It's all to play for. We've got to beat Sunderland yet but (Wembley) is a wonderful day out - the best day you'll have as a player or a coach. But more importantly it's for the supporters - if they can get that it's terrific."

Bruce is a three-time winner of the FA Cup from his playing days with Manchester United.
