Nottingham Forest advance with Huddersfield Town win

An own goal from James Vaughan and a strike from Henri Lansbury is enough to see Nottingham Forest through into the third round of the Capital One Cup.

Nottingham Forest advanced to the third round of the Capital One Cup with a comfortable 2-0 win over Huddersfield Town at John Smith's Stadium this evening.

The home side went close in the early stages as Jon Stead turned with the ball and ran at goal, and his shot struck the base of the post and bounced clear.

Pearce's men hit back and Jamie Paterson almost broke the deadlock as he surged into the area, but his effort was well beaten away by Joe Murphy.

Michail Antonio thought that he had given his side the lead when he latched on to Henri Lansbury's cross into the box, but his header was cleared off the line by Murray Wallace.

Lansbury almost turned provider again as this time he picked out Lars Veldwijk in the box, but the striker failed to keep his composure as he fired his shot wide of the target.

In the second half, Forest continued to press for their goal as Lansbury continued to hit dangerous crosses into the box, but the Huddersfield defence was resolute.

However, the visitors finally got their goal but in an unusual fashion as James Vaughan powered Jamie Paterson's cross from the right into his own net.

Forest sealed their place in the third round of the competition when Lansbury collected a loose ball inside the Huddersfield box and calmly placed his effort past Murphy.
