Hearts progress in Scottish League Cup with Arbroath win

An Osman Sow brace, a Jordan McGhee strike and a late Jamie Walker goal help Hearts to a 4-2 win over Arbroath in their Scottish League Cup first round clash on Thursday.

Hearts have secured a 4-2 win over Arbroath in their Scottish League Cup first-round clash at Tynecastle Stadium.

Following a laboured first half, the visitors took the lead five minutes before the break when David Gold was released in behind the Hearts defence and slotted the ball past goalkeeper Jack Hamilton.

The hosts struck back in empathic fashion as they scored three goals in the space of four second-half minutes, Jordan McGhee converting a low cross into the bottom corner and Osman Sow netting two in quick succession, one of them from the spot.

Arbroath made it a nervy finish when Martin Grehan headed home at the back post with just five minutes left to play, but the Jambos wrapped up the tie in injury time through Jamie Walker.
