Ghana through to semi-finals

Ghana have made it through to the semi-finals of the African Nations Championship after beating Congo in a close contest.

Kwabena Adusei's second-half penalty has fired Ghana into the African Nations Championship semi-finals.

Congo's Firmin Ndombe had arguably the best opportunity of a goalless first half, sending his effort over the bar from close range as both sides failed to create any real opportunities.

Ghana did eventually break the deadlock on the 68-minute mark, courtesy of Adusei's goal from the penalty spot after the referee spotted a handball inside the Congo box.

Substitute Emomo Eddy Ngoyi came close to levelling the contest late on with a fine individual effort, though his effort didn't have enough on it to trouble keeper Stephen Adams.

Mohammed Yahaya almost doubled the lead for Akwasi Appiah's men, finding himself one-on-one with Muteba Kidiaba, the midfielder looked for a spectacular lob, though the attempt was badly executed and Kidiaba made the save.

Congo continued to press in the closing stages, though the Black Stars held on for victory where they will face Nigeria in the semi-finals, with the winner coming up against either Zimbabwe or Libya in the African tournament's final.
