Miroslav Klose shrugs off Ronaldo record ahead of final

Miroslav Klose insists that beating Ronaldo's World Cup record will count for nothing if Germany lose to Argentina in Sunday's final.

Germany hitman Miroslav Klose has played down the significance of beating Ronaldo's World Cup record by insisting that he is "100%" focused on winning the tournament.

The 36-year-old became the competition's most prolific marksman of all time on Tuesday by scoring his 16th tournament goal in the 7-1 thrashing of Brazil in Belo Horizonte.

However, Klose claims that such an achievement would pale into insignificance if Germany lose to Argentina in Sunday's final at the Maracana.

"It's a hugely emotional thing for me but people who know me, know that my focus is already on Argentina – 100%," he told reporters.

"Yes, I have overtaken Ronaldo as the best goal-scorer but that is something to take on board another day.

"If we lose the final, my joy as the top-scorer will be significantly dampened."

Sunday's showpiece in Rio kicks off at 8pm.
