The home side caused trouble in the first minute when Stefano Sturaro broke free towards goal, but the strike went wide of the post.

Marco Motta then went close with a header, but the ball was scrambled away by Lazio defenders, while a minute later Antonio Candreva's strike was off target for the away side.

Towards the latter stages of the half Lazio turned up the pressure, and saw efforts from Candreva, Ogenyi Onazi and Diao Keita trouble the Genoa goal.
