Alessandro Matri delighted with Fiorentina debut

Fiorentina striker Alessandro Matri says that he was glad to score during his first game for the club, as they claimed a 3-0 win over Catania.

Fiorentina striker Alessandro Matri has spoken of his delight after scoring twice on his debut for the club.

The Viola claimed a 3-0 win over Catania and Matri was pleased to net a first-half double after joining the club on loan from AC Milan last week.

"I went off at half-time due to a slight calf problem and we need some tests tomorrow to evaluate the extent of it," he told Sky Sport Italia. "I hadn't experienced a moment like this for a while and to be honest I really needed it. I wanted to become a protagonist again and after such a tough time you lose your sense of balance. Only my girlfriend and those closest to me know what I've gone through.

"The first goal was from a move that Fiorentina often attempt, while on the second I was fortunate and smart to believe in it. Over six months I struggled to settle into Milan's tactics and there were various problems at the club. I am 29 years old and still a bit young to be on the bench.

"Why did I choose Fiorentina? They had the Number 32 free! There were other options, but this team plays in a very attacking way and there are many fascinating elements here."

Fiorentina are currently fourth in the Serie A table and sit just three points behind third-placed Napoli.
