Phil Thompson believes that Everton have overachieved this season.

Phil Thompson has claimed that Everton have overachieved this season.

The Blues will finish sixth in the Premier League this season ahead of their local rivals Liverpool for the second successive season.

Thompson feels that due to their lack of financial clout, manager David Moyes has once again had his team performing above their perceived capabilities.

"I think Everton have overachieved again this season," Thompson told Sky Sports News.

"If you look at their net spend, it is about £3m a season, probably even a little bit less. David Moyes has done an incredible job, so that's why I say they have overachieved.

"It is a remarkable achievement by Moyes and that is why he has got the top job [at Manchester United]."

Everton travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea this afternoon.
