Ross Barkley wants to play up front for Everton

Ross Barkley expresses his desire to play in a more advanced role for Everton where he can be "free to roam around the pitch".

Everton's Ross Barkley has signalled his intentions to play more games in an advanced role for the Toffees, insisting that he is "a striker".

The 21-year-old was a regular starter last season under Roberto Martinez, but has struggled for form this term with just two goals in 28 appearances.

He often plays in a midfield role, sometimes having to sit quite deep, but Barkley feels that his best position is up front.

"I'm a striker," he told Premier League World. "I feel I can have my greatest impact there because I'm free to roam around the pitch, take players on, have shots and create chances."

The England international is confident that he can get back to his best in the near future.

"You have to go through bad days to get to the great days you have in your career," he added.

"Everything's a learning curve. We haven't been going through the best period at the moment but we're going to come through this and be really good at the end of it.

"I don't feel pressure. I believe in myself and I know what I can do. It's not me feeling pressure, it's just me putting pressure on myself if I don't do my best, and I know I can do better."

Everton have endured a difficult campaign this season, occupying a bottom-half spot for the majority of the campaign. They have, however, won their last two Premier League games to edge nine points clear of the relegation zone.
