Espanyol sack manager Quique Flores

Quique Flores is sacked by Spanish side Espanyol following a run of eight wins in 33 matches this season.

La Liga side Espanyol have confirmed the departure of manager Quique Flores as part of an overhaul.

The 53-year-old, who turned down the chance to take charge of Stoke City in January, leaves the Periquitos sitting 16th in the Spanish top flight.

A year on from guiding Espanyol to eighth place in his first season at the helm, the former Watford boss is now out of work after failing to push on this time around, winning just eight of 33 matches.

Flores's final game in charge was the 1-0 loss at home to Eibar on Wednesday evening.

Sporting director Jordi Lardin has also stepped down from his position, while David Gallego has been placed in charge of the club for the foreseeable future.
