Stuart Pearce: 'Young England players can help teammates cope with conditions'

Former England Under-21s manager Stuart Pearce believes that the experience from the Under-20 World Cup in Colombia in 2011 will help the team in Brazil.

Stuart Pearce has said that some of England's younger players will be able to help their teammates cope with the conditions in Brazil at this summer's World Cup.

England took part in the Under-20 World Cup in Colombia in 2011 in similar conditions that the senior side will face in their first game of this summer's competition.

The former England Under-21s manager told Sky Sports News: "The conditions there were very, very, similar in one of the games that we played. The humidity was terrible, the temperature was really hot, we played in the heat of the day as well, and I saw the effect it had on our players.

"When we took a group of Under-20s, and the sad thing is there is nobody that represented England then that could have had that experience who has gone with the group now, it was stifling, it really was stifling.

"The good thing this time is it's our first game playing up there so the fatigue won't have kicked in like it will do once we get into knockout stages."

England will play Italy in Manaus in their opening match in the group stage of the tournament next Saturday.
