Leah Williamson scores unique penalty to send England through

Leah Williamson successfully converts from the spot to send England through to the 2015 Women's Under-19 Championship finals, amid bizarre circumstances.

England have qualified for the 2015 Women's Under-19 Championship finals, having taken advantage of a bizarre ruling in their match against Norway to progress through to the finals.

In an unprecedented ruling, European football governing body UEFA ordered the crucial game to restart in injury time due to a refereeing error in the original tie earlier this week.

The Three Lionesses found themselves trailing 2-1 in the closing stages of the contest, before Leah Williamson thought she had scored a decisive pen, only for the officials to wrongly award the opposition a free kick for encroachment rather than allowing the pen to be retaken.

After beating Switzerland earlier in the day, Leah Williamson knew that if she was to score her retaken spot kick it was likely to be enough to send England through, and she successfully overcame the pressure to do exactly that.

The rare decision taken by UEFA to restart the game could now have wider implications on the sport in general.
