Frank Lampard eager to see positives from Chile defeat

Frank Lampard says the defeat to Chile produced "positives" that the team can take forward into the Germany match.

Frank Lampard believes that England can take positives from their 2-0 defeat to Chile tonight.

Alexis Sanchez grabbed a goal in each half as England struggled to break down their opponents.

However, Lampard, who was captain for the night, says that while it is always disappointing to lose, there are aspects of play that the team can be pleased with.

"They were a good team, we knew that. They have a different style and it's a great exercise for us. Nobody likes to lose but we can take the positives from it. They scored early and late and we had chances in between," he told BBC Sport.

Lampard also praised the performance of debutant Adam Lallana, but warned England they need to do better on Tuesday when they face Germany.

"Adam Lallana was lively and on another day he might have had two goals on his debut," he added.

"We didn't need a reality check, we know that we are not on the moon and we are not terrible, we're somewhere in the middle. We've got another game against top class opposition on Tuesday and we have to do better."

Lampard played 71 minutes of the match before being substituted for Jordan Henderson.
