Roy Hodgson open to Andy Carroll England return

England boss Roy Hodgson refuses to rule out an international recall for West Ham United striker Andy Carroll.

England manager Roy Hodgson has revealed that West Ham United striker Andy Carroll has a chance of rekindling his international career if he can recapture his form.

The towering forward has been absent since February after suffering the latest in a series of injuries that have plagued the 26-year-old since joining the Hammers.

Carroll impressed for the Three Lions in Euro 2012 but his injuries have opened the door for the likes of Rickie Lambert, and more recently Charlie Austin, to stake their claims.

Nevertheless, Hodgson is adamant that a fit-and-firing Carroll would certainly provide food for thought ahead of Euro 2016 in France next summer.

"I don't close doors," Hodgson told reporters.

"Rickie did a very good job for us, Charlie Austin has been with us and I am not going to be so hung up where I say: 'unless you are a certain type of footballer there is no chance for you'.

"If Andy can recapture his form, you know how much of a handful he is as a player, so who knows? He could quite easily become a player we look at."

Carroll has nine caps for his country.
