Sven-Goran Eriksson: 'I just waited for England to sack me'

Sven-Goran Eriksson says that he 'waited' to be sacked as England manager towards the end of his five-year tenure with the national side.

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has admitted that he expected to be dismissed by the Football Association during his time in charge.

The Swede spent five years at the helm of the Three Lions, guiding them to the quarter-finals of the World Cup in 2002 and 2006 before getting sacked.

"You sit there and you can't stop the job because then you betray England and you're sitting there just waiting for England to sack you," Eriksson told BBC Breakfast. "But I don't want to be negative it's a beautiful job and the biggest job you can have in football."

The 65-year-old is currently the manager of Chinese Super League side Guangzhou R&F.
