Mark Sampson: 'Women's World Cup is in England's hands'

England Women head coach Mark Sampson believes that his team could not be more united and prepared ahead of their game against Norway in the last 16 of the World Cup.

England Women head coach Mark Sampson has claimed that his team could not be more united and prepared ahead of their game against Norway in the last 16 of the World Cup.

The Three Lionesses recovered from an opening-game defeat against France to advance into the knockout rounds of the competition, with victories over Mexico and Colombia proving enough to make second place.

Sampson, 32, told BBC Sport: "The staff have worked really hard to make sure we are the most together unit in the tournament and be in a position to sense the pressure. This tournament is in our hands.

"Now the big challenge is - can we make history? We want to progress in this tournament, we're ambitious and we're building momentum, but there are tough challenges ahead."

England, who have never advanced past the first knockout stage of a World Cup, face Norway in Ottawa on Monday.
