Elche pile misery on Deportivo La Coruna

Elche move seven points clear of the La Liga drop zone with a 4-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna that leaves the visitors two points short of safety in the division.

Elche moved seven points clear of the La Liga drop zone with a 4-0 win over Deportivo La Coruna this evening.

Goals from Jonathas, David Lomban, Mario Pasalic and Garry Mendes Rodrigues gave the home side the points to leave Depor two points from safety in Spain's top division.

Damian Suarez played in Jonathas inside the first six minutes and he made no mistake from close range to give Elche the lead.

Lomban extended the advantage from the penalty spot on 20 minutes after Enzo Roco had been brought down inside the area.

Oriol Riera and Lucas Perez had a couple of quick-fire efforts for the visitors shortly after the restart, but Pasalic secured the result before the hour mark.

The German headed home from a cross to make it 3-0 and the visitors had little in the way of a response before Rodrigues made it four in stoppage time.
