Thomas Schaaf quits as Eintracht Frankfurt manager

Thomas Schaaf steps down from his role as manager of Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt.

Thomas Schaaf has quit as manager of Bundesliga club Eintracht Frankfurt.

The 54-year-old, who had 12 months left on his contract, took charge of the team at the start of the season.

Schaaf guided Frankfurt to a ninth-place finish in the table, but he has now left the Commerzbank-Arena amid speculation that he fell out with players and the board.

"Thomas Schaaf achieved all the goals we had set before the season reaching spot nine in the standings and 43 points," chairman Heribert Bruchhagen told the club's official website.

"The collaboration was good which we repeatedly confirmed in his direction but also towards the media over the recent days. We regret that Thomas Schaaf will not proceed building the future of our club. Up until the end we tried to convince him otherwise and we have not been in talks with other managers."

Schaaf's last game in charge of Frankfurt ended in a 2-1 victory over Bayer Leverkusen.
